JACKSON, Miss. ? Indiana State senior wide receiver
Carl Berman (Treasure Island, Fla./Boca Ciega) performed well at the 2006 Magnolia Gridiron Classic held at Jackson State University on December 23.
The all-star game pits the nation's best NCAA Bowl players whose teams did not advance to a bowl game against the nation's top NCAA Playoff players. The NCAA Bowl team defeated the Playoff team by a score of 32-14.
Berman caught three passes in the game for a total of 73 yards to pace his squad on the day.
On the season, Berman earned All-Gateway Football Conference Honorable Mention as well Gateway Football All-Academic Second Team honors. Berman paced the team with 59 catches for 783 yards, an average of 13.8 yards per catch. He was on the receiving end of four touchdown passes, and caught a season-long 41-yard touchdown from
Reilly Murphy in the season finale against Illinois State. A multi-faceted star, he averaged 18.6 yards per kick return. Berman's 5.38 receptions per game average ranks second-best in the Gateway and finished 29th in the nation.
He averaged 71.8 yards receiving per game, good enough for third in the Gateway and 37th in the nation. In addition, Berman's 18.6 yard kick return average was seventh best in the GFC. He topped the 100-yard receiving mark twice on the season, at Eastern Illinois as well as Western Illinois.
