INDIANA STATE ANNOUNCES 2007 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. ? Indiana State Director of Athletics Ron Prettyman announced today (Dec. 15) that the 2007 football schedule has been completed. Next season's slate will feature six home games, as well as one in-state road contest.

“We have put together a challenging schedule for our football program next season,” Prettyman said. “2007 promises to be exciting for our fans, players and coaches as we open at Indiana, and then have six home games including three against members of the Gateway. In addition, we look forward to the opportunity of facing Western Kentucky twice more in the coming seasons as they transition to the highest level of college football. With solid returnees on both sides of the ball as well as what will prove to be a talented recruiting class, we should be an entertaining team to watch next season.”

The campaign kicks off Saturday, September 1 when the Sycamores travel to Indiana to face the Hoosiers for the first time since 2003. The Hoosiers downed ISU 33-3 at Memorial Stadium the last time they met. ISU will be facing Indiana on the gridiron for just the third time since 1925.

The Sycamores open the home slate on September 8 when they host Austin Peay of the Ohio Valley Conference. ISU was a 42-15 victor over the Governors in the lone previous meeting between the two schools -- at home in 1989.

ISU travels to Southeast Missouri State on September 15 for the second of three consecutive games against OVC members, before returning home to face Eastern Illinois on September 22. ISU is 3-2 all-time against SEMO, with the last meeting coming in 1999. EIU downed the Sycamores 31-21 this past season in Charleston, Ill., and will be making their first trip to Terre Haute, Ind., since opening the Lou West era in August of 2005.

The Eastern Illinois game kicks off a season-long, three-game homestand that is rounded out with a pair of Gateway Football Conference games against recent NCAA Division I Playoff participant Southern Illinois as well as Western Illinois. The Salukis come to Memorial Stadium on September 29 while the Leathernecks appear on October 6.

ISU travels to NCAA quarterfinalist Illinois State on October 13. The Sycamores were downed by the Redbirds in the 2006 season finale by score of 41-21.

Homecoming is October 20 when former Gateway Football Conference member Western Kentucky comes to town in the first year of a transition from the NCAA Division I Playoff classification to NCAA Division I Bowls. Following this transition period, WKU will be a full-time member of the Sun Belt Conference. ISU will make a return trip to WKU in either 2008 or 2009 for the second game of this non-conference series.

The Sycamores finish the year by traveling to Missouri State on October 27, followed by the year's final home game on November 3 versus Youngstown State and the season finale at Northern Iowa on November 10.

ISU defeated MSU by a score of 28-22 on Homecoming this past season, while the Penguins won the Gateway Football Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division I Playoff Final Four.
