Located on the banks of the Wabash River at the intersection of First and Chestnut Streets is the Gibson Track & Field Complex, a superb, $4.3 million track facility to shore of the western edge of Indiana State's campus. The project was the first in Terre Haute's Riverscape development area project.

The Gibson Track & Field Complex is named for longtime Indiana State supporters Max and Jackie Gibson and their family, whose gift enabled initial construction of the facility. The Gibsons were also instrumental in the development of the nationally renown LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, which has hosted the NCAA Division I National Championships a total of 13 times since 2002 and will do so again in 2026.

The complex was completed in the spring of 2015 and dedicated before a standing-room crowd at the Gibson Invitational on April 16, 2015. A three-story press box facility was completed in May 2016 before Indiana State hosted the 2016 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Since the opening of the complex, Indiana State has hosted the MVC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 2016, 2018, 2019 and, most recently, in 2024.

Serving as more than just the home site for Indiana State track and field, the Gibson Track and Field Complex is also the site for the Indiana Middle School State Championships and was the host site for the 2024 USATF Region 7 Junior Olympic Championships.

Included at the facility is a state-of-the-art 400-meter track, as well as accommodations for multi-directional options for all NCAA field events. A Daktronics video board also adorns the northwest corner of the facility with the option for multiple video boards elsewhere throughout the facility for larger meets.
