Keith Hopkins is in his first season as Indiana State's sprints coach following one season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Sycamores. Hopkins came to Terre Haute after serving as an assistant coach at Baker University for two years. While at Baker, Hopkins worked primarily with the sprinters, hurdlers and men's multi-event athletes. Under his guidance, multiple athletes were able to earn conference championships and had seven athletes earn NAIA All-American honors in the 100 meter hurdles (two athletes), 400 meter hurdles, 60 meter dash, 60 meter hurdles, 4 x 100 meter relay, and 4 x 400 meter relay.
Hopkins earned his master's in Sociology from Baker University in 2012 and a second master's degree from Indiana State in 2015 in coaching.
Hopkins also served as an assistant coach at his alma mater in 2011, as he assisted the sprinters and hurdlers at Thornwood High School in South Holland, Illinois. In that season Hopkins coached a state champion in the 400 meter dash and a third-place 4 x 400 meter relay squad.
Hopkins earned his undergraduate degree from Purdue University in 2010 after a decorated career as a hurdler. Hopkins was a three-time national qualifier in the 110 meter hurdles with a personal best time of 13.59 seconds, which is second all-time at Purdue. He also qualified twice for the indoor national championships in the 60 meter hurdles with a personal best of 7.79 seconds. Hopkins was a 2008 member of the Olympic Trials in the 110 meter high hurdles. He graduated from Purdue with a degree in psychology and a minor in American Sign Language.
Hopkins was born in Chicago, Illinois to Bridgette Hopkins. He has three brothers, Dante, Sean and Quinn, as well as two sisters, Katelyn and Dominique. Hopkins is a certified USATF Level 2 Coach in the combined events, USTFCCCA certified in the jumps and strength and conditioning, and is USA weightlifting sports performance certified.
