AUBURN, Ala. – Senior thrower
Ryan Chestnut had a career day in the hammer throw to lead the Sycamores at Day One of the Tiger Track Classic at Auburn on Friday.
Chestnut finished third in the men's hammer, heaving a monster four-meter career-best at 57.71m (189-04). His throw today leaves him just three feet from the fairly strong all-time top-10 in Indiana State history, and also pushes him up to second in the Valley and 47th in the NCAA East Region this season.
It was a light day elsewhere for the Sycamores with a handful of other top finishes on Day One.
Sophomore
Ryan Cash also had a career day in the men's 5K, finishing third as well at a 23-second PR time of 14:52.46.
Junior
Gino Brown kept his solid outdoor season going with a fourth-place finish in the men's triple jump, leaping 14.53m (47-08.00). Just last week Brown recorded a season-best 14.75m (48-04.75).
Top finisher on a light day of work for the Sycamore women was junior
Jamie Newsome in the women's triple jump. Newsome made finals, finishing seventh at 11.96m (39-03.00).
Action picks back up on a more busy day for the Sycamores at 12 p.m. ET with the women's pole vault.
