AUBURN, Ala. – Indiana State men's and women's track & field will head back down south yet again this outdoor season for the Tiger Track Classic at Auburn on Friday and Saturday.
The Sycamores, who also opened the outdoor season in SEC country at Ole Miss on March 24-25, are coming off successful weekend at the EIU Big Blue Classic last week, where ISU finished third on both the men's and women's side of competition.
While most of Indiana State was at EIU, distance runners
Taylor Austin and
Brooke Moore flew out to the west coast for the prestigious Stanford Invite, where both Sycamores had stellar races. Austin was named the Missouri Valley Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week for her finish in the invite section of the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, where she nearly tied her own school record of 10:17.70 with a sixth-place time of 10:17.73 in her first steeple of the season. Austin is the defending MVC champion in the event at her school record time. Austin ranks third in the NCAA and 10th in the East Region at the moment.
Moore, meanwhile, etched her name into the record book herself with a monumental performance in the 1500-meter. Moore, who indoors broke ISU records in the mile (4:43.04) and 3K (9:35.60), ran 4:20.02 in the 1500 – breaking
Angie Lansing's 1997 record of 4:27.92 by seven seconds. Moore's time ranks 22nd in the NCAA and 11th in the East Region at the moment.
This week at Auburn she runs in the 800, in which she also ranks 48th in the East Region at her time of 2:09.47 ran at Ole Miss to open the outdoor season. Austin, meanwhile, will take her talents to the 1500 this week at Auburn.
On the men's side, senior
Marcus Neely remains ISU's top-ranked athlete with his time in the 110-meter hurdles. The senior Indianapolis native ran 14.01 to open the season at Ole Miss, which still ranks 20th in the NCAA and ninth in the East. Neely is a two-time regional qualifier in the hurdles and owns an all-time best of 13.70, which would rank seventh in the NCAA at the moment.
Other Sycamores with top-ranked marks include
Daley Carter in the 110-meter hurdles (39th, 14.36), the men's 4x100-meter relay of Carter,
Jaynard Keys, Adrian Gibson and
Tristan Parmley (39th, 40.91)
Devyn Mikell in the long jump (42nd, 7.21m/23-08.00) and
Caitlyn Redmon in the long jump (47th, 5.82m/19-01.25).
Competition begins at 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday with the men's hammer throw.
