On Dec. 21, 2016, the Indiana State University lost a legend in track & field and cross country head coach John McNichols, the longest tenured head coach in Indiana State history. During his storied career, he won 38 total team titles and coached 15 NCAA Champions, 10 NCAA Runners-Up, 113 All-Americans and 464 MVC Champions among many other noteworthy accomplishments -- including the designing and development of both the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course (site of 12 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships) and the Gibson Track & Field Complex.

The links above include Coach McNichols' full bio, his obituary from our website the day of his passing, tributes from both the media and members of the track community around the world, our tribute video, our photo gallery of Coach through the years and our blog dedicated to Coach.

Donations in his name can be made to the Sycamore Athletic Fund for the newly-established John McNichols Memorial Fund. To donate, click HERE and make the donation out to the John McNichols Memorial Fund. For more information on donations, contact saf@indstatefoundation.org.
