TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Sophomore
Cassaundra Roper led the way for the Sycamore women with a career day in the hammer throw at Day One of the Gibson Invitational.
Her accomplishments helped list the Sycamore women to second place in the team scores, with ISU sitting with 13 points through two scored events behind current leader Southern Illinois. The Sycamore men, meanwhile, sit in fifth with 4 points.
Roper's new record comes at a distance of 53.68m (176-01), which gave her a second place finish. Her distance moved her to the ninth-best distance in school history, and currently sits at fourth in the Valley.
Jada Jackson also had a solid showing in the women's hammer throw, placing sixth with a distance of 46.39m (152-02).
Junior
Kailyn Hutson had a strong performance in the women's javelin throw, finishing fourth with a distance 31.45m (103-02).
In the men's javelin throw, two Sycamores had scoring performances. Freshman Josh Perry had a strong showing in his first career javelin throw, finishing fifth with a distance of 42.41m (139-02). His distance is currently ninth in the Valley.
Senior
Blake Marsee finished sixth in the men's javelin throw with a distance of 41.51m (136-02).
Another scoring performance on a light day of work was
Ryan Chestnut, who finished sixth in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 53.51m (175-07).
Competition resumes tomorrow at noon at the Gibson Track & Field Complex with the field events, followed by the beginning of the track events at 1:15 with the women's steeplechase.
