TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State men's and women's track & field returns home for the first time this outdoor season for the 2017 Gibson Invitational (presented by Terre Haute Convention & Visitor's Bureau) this weekend at the Gibson Track & Field Complex.
The Sycamores will be one of five total teams in scored competition, alongside Illinois State, Southern Illinois, SIU-Edwardsville and Southeast Missouri.
Indiana State is coming off a very successful weekend at Auburn's Tiger Track Classic, where several different Sycamores jumped up both the national and regional lists.
Sophomore
Brooke Moore kept her extraordinary season going, winning the 800 for the second time this season at yet-another three-second PR time of 2:06.74 – fourth-best in school history and currently 21st in the NCAA and 11th in the East Region. Her school-record 1500-meter time of 4:20.02 from two weeks ago still ranks highly as well at 24th on the national list and 12th on the regional list. She leads the Valley in both events by a five-second margin.
Senior hurdler
Marcus Neely won his fourth MVC Male Track Athlete of the Week award this week following another win in the 110-meter hurdles. Neely ran a season-best 13.93, breaking 14 seconds for the first time this season and vaulting himself up to 18th nationally and seventh regionally. Neely is a two-time NCAA East qualifier and has run a career-best 13.70 at last year's MVC Outdoor Championships.
Fellow senior hurdler
Daley Carter also improved last week, running 14.25 to move up to 30th on the NCAA East list.
Junior high jumper
Jaime Murtagh also had quite a day, tying an overall career-best at 2.12m (6-11.50) for the event win, giving him sole possession of 10th all-time in school history and putting him in contention for a regional qualifying berth in 17th place on the East Region list. He also ranks 33rd in the NCAA.
Senior All-American
Alethia Marrero had a season-best day in the 400-meter hurdles as well, running 1:00.18 to move up to 43rd on the East Region list.
This weekend will also mark the return of fellow senior All-American
David Timlin, who has sat out the first part of the outdoor season. He will run in the 1500-meter on Saturday at 2:10 p.m.
Competition will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday night, however, with the men's and women's hammer throw and javelin.
