CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Indiana State men's and women's track & field will get a conference preview this Saturday at the Mark Messersmith Invite at Northern Iowa.
The meet – which coincides with the Jack Jennett Open and multi events on Thursday and Friday – will be a scored contest among the Sycamores, Panthers, Drake, UW-Milwaukee and South Dakota State, with the scoring set at 10-8-6-4-2-1. Currently,
Michael Boger and
Joshua Perry are competing in the heptathlon at UNI, while
Patrycja Dziekonska,
Micaela McLean,
Ayanna Morgan and
Caitlyn Redmon will compete in the pentathlon tomorrow.
Senior hurdlers
Marcus Neely and
Daley Carter lead the Sycamores in the national rankings with just more than a month remaining in the indoor season. Neely currently sits in contention for the NCAA Indoor Championships with a No. 12 ranking in the 60-meter hurdles at 7.87 – a new season-best run at IU last week to place runner-up to former Sycamore Olympian
Greggmar Swift.
Daley, meanwhile, ranks 45th at his 8.01 time to best Neely and win the 60-meter hurdles at home in the Terre Haute Double Dual.
On the women's side,
Brooke Moore will return to the 800-meter this weekend in the hopes of bumping up her national ranking as well. She currently ranks 49th nationally in the 800 at 2:11.14 (converted from 2:12.65 for track size). Moore is coming off a superb week at IU where she nearly broke the Indiana State all-time mile record set by current senior associate AD
Angie Lansing in 1998 (4:50.12) after running 4:50.73 to finish third in the fast section of the mile.
The top-16 nationally in each event at the end of the regular season advance to the indoor national meet at Texas A&M on March 10-11.
The Sycamores will be in full force for the scored meet, which will begin at 11 a.m. ET inside the UNI-Dome – site of the 2017 MVC Indoor Championships.
