TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State track and field teams will return home for the first time this weekend to host the Gibson Invitational at the Gibson Track & Field Complex.
Â
This year, the cost of admission on Saturday will be $5, but admission to competition on Friday night will be free.
Â
Indiana State will be one of seven teams in this scored meet alongside Bradley, IUPUI, Milwaukee, Northern Iowa, Valparaiso and Western Michigan.
Â
The Sycamores are coming off of a strong weekend of split-squad competition where several athletes entered and jumped up the regional and national lists.
Â
Senior All-American
Taylor Austin had a big race at the Stanford Invite last Friday in the 3000-meter steeplechase, where she demolished her own school-record by eight seconds with a time of 9:54.01. Her time is only three seconds away from the overall Missouri Valley Conference record set in 2012 by Aisha Praught of Illinois State. Currently, she has the best time in the Valley, is number one in the East Region and is fourth in the nation.
Â
At Ole Miss,
Brittany Neeley made her way into the ISU top-10 in the 800-meter run. Neeley went out fast and never looked back on her way to a victory, crossing the line at 2:08.15 which is the top time in the MVC, 22nd in the East and 33rd in the country.
Â
In the field at Ole Miss,
Erin Reese improved upon her successes in both the hammer and discus throws. In a deep hammer throw field, Reese finished third overall, but she unleashed a big throw that gave her a personal-best and improved her second overall mark in school history to 62.34m (204-06). She leads the MVC, is fifth in the East Region and 15th in the country. The discus throw was also a strong event for Reese, as she recorded a career-best in that event as well at 53.98m (177-01) which is fourth in school history, first in the conference, sixth in the East Region, and 18th in the nation.
Â
On the men's side,
Quentin Pierce and
Cam Trout picked up victories on the track at Ole Miss. Pierce won the 1500-meter run at 3:51.15, edging out his teammate
Ryan Cash who fell just short at 3:52.05. Trout won the men's 5K with a time of 15:02.94 which is a season-best and fifth in the conference.
Â
Senior sprinter
Tristan Parmley also had a strong day on the track, finishing third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.54, which leads the Missouri Valley. Parmley is also second in the MVC in the 200-meter dash at 21.23 and is also 48th in the East.
Â
The long jumpers found success last weekend in Mississippi, with
Scott Schreiber taking home second-place with a mark of 7.03m (23-00.75) which is still first in the Valley.
Myles Aldridge and
Corey DuPriest finished right behind Schreiber in third and fourth with jumps of 6.98m (22-11.00) and 6.87m (22-06.50), respectively.
Â
Competition will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday night with the men's and women's hammer throw and javelin.
