Carter, Ince and women’s relay teams qualify for Saturday’s finals at day two of Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa - It was a windy day two of the Drake Relays, but that didn't stop two Sycamore hurdlers and the women's relay teams from advancing to Saturday's finals.

In her first appearance at the Drake Relays, sophomore Allana Ince rose to the occasion and came out blazing in the third heat of the women's 100-meter hurdles. Ince fought the wind and competed hard as she claimed a time qualifier spot by finishing second in her heat with the eighth-best time in school history of 14.12, which puts her in the final tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. ET. That time moves her to seventh in the MVC with two weeks to go before the conference championships.

Drake Relays veteran Daley Carter also made sure to earn a spot in tomorrow's 110-meter hurdles final at 3:42 p.m., taking the automatic qualifier position in heat one by coming away victorious with a time of 14.33. Tomorrow, the Barbados native will be looking to replicate the success of past Sycamore hurdlers at the Relays, such as Marcus Neely who finished third overall last season, and Adarius Washington who won the event in 2016. Carter's time of 14.04 from Auburn still sits at second in the MVC, 31st in the NCAA East Region and 46th in the nation.

Both of the ISU women's relay teams earned spots in Saturday's finals as well. The 4X100-meter relay team comprised of Shana Cooper, DeAndra Greer, Oschtisha Jackson and Faith Lindsey started off the day on the right foot for the Sycamores, taking fifth in their heat and sixth overall with a season-best time of 45.98, which is fourth in the conference. The women's 4X100-meter final begins tomorrow afternoon at 4:13 p.m.

Later in the afternoon, the 4X400-meter relay team of Jackson, Imani Davis, Ahmanah Woods and Brittany Neeley ran an impressive race, finishing second in their heat just behind Ohio State with a time of 3:44.14, earning a place in the final at 4:41 p.m. on Saturday. They also overtook Iowa and Illinois, as well as conference rivals Northern Iowa and Drake. Their season-best performance improves their already Valley-leading time by .06.

The men's 100-meter dash featured a deep field of sprinters, which ultimately resulted in Tristan Parmley being the first man left out of tomorrow's finals, despite running a season-best time of 10.48. For perspective, last year Parmley's time would've been fourth overall at the 2017 Drake Relays.

Caitlyn Redmon battled the winds and looked strong in the women's long jump, which led to her making the final eight for the event. Redmon ended-up with a jump of 5.77m (18-11.25), which gave her an eighth place finish against some high-level competition.

The Sycamores will be back in action tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. with the men's pole vault for the third and final day of the 2018 Drake Relays.
