Thilda Staubo and
Sophie Benetti picked up MVC Scholar-Athlete honors as announced by the league office earlier today (April 25).
Staubo was named to the MVC Women's Golf First Team while Benetti was honored by being named an honorable mention selection. It is the first such honor for both Sycamores as they recently completed their third season of competition with Sycamore Golf.
Staubo holds a 3.39 grade-point average in exercise science and ranked eighth in the MVC with a 76.18 stroke average in 22 rounds this year. She finished in a tie for sixth place at the MVC Championship with rounds of 75, 76 and 74 for a three-round total of 225 – topping her previous career best of 228 set at the Bradley Invitational last season. Staubo enjoyed her best conference championship finish in three appearances this year. She recorded three Top 5 and four Top 10 performances this season. Her low round of 70 came in the first round of the WG Fort Wayne Spring Classic en route to a third-place finish and a two round score of 141.
Benetti ranked 12th in the MVC with a 77.22 stroke average in 23 rounds this year. She finished in a tie for 14th place at the MVC Championship with rounds of 79, 75 and 74 for a three-round total of 228 – her best conference championship score in three appearances. Benetti recorded one Top 5 and three Top 10 performances this season. Her low round of 72 came in the MVC Preview as well as the ISU Spring Invitational.
Both Staubo and Benetti graduated from Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Fla., prior to joining the Sycamore Golf program. They are the eighth and ninth women's golfers in the history of the program to earn MVC Scholar-Athlete honors. Amanda Smith holds the program record by being honored three separate times by the league office (2013, 2014 & 2015).
