TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – It was an impressive day of competition for the Indiana State men's and women's throwers at day one of the Pacesetter Sports Invite.

The ISU men and women both sit in first place after Friday's competition. The men hold a 73-18 lead over Eastern Illinois and also lead Detroit (1), Butler (0) and Xavier (0). The women are currently defeating Eastern Illinois by a score of 41-36 and also hold a lead over Detroit (16), Butler (0) and Xavier (0).

A trio of Sycamores finished at the top of the javelin throw.
Kannon Sams won the event with a 30 foot career-best throw of 49.47m (162-04), which is fourth in the MVC. Finishing second was
Sam Overton, who also recorded a lifetime-best mark of 48.34m (158-07) and owns the fifth-best position in the conference.
Michael Boger took home third place with a career-best mark of 46.85m (153-08).

The men's hammer throw saw
Hunter Schuman record a new career-best mark for the second consecutive work en route to a runner-up finish. Schuman finished with a throw of 55.53m (182-02), improving his third place position in the Missouri Valley Conference.

On the track for the men,
Luke Kerstiens,
Ryan Kritzer and
Ben Payton finished second, third and fourth in the men's 5K. Kerstiens crossed the line at 15:31.41 with Kritzer right behind him at 15:42.32. Payton rounded out the three Sycamores by finishing with a time of 15:52.77.

The Sycamore women also found success on Friday, with
Erin Reese winning the hammer throw with a mark of 61.98m (203-04), winning the event for the third straight week. Her mark of 62.34m (204-06) from Ole Miss is first in the Valley, fifth in the NCAA East Region and 16th in the nation.
Jasmine Noel finished right behind Reese in second place with a throw of 54.27m (178-01), less than a foot away from her personal-best. Third place went to
Cassaundra Roper, who ended up with a mark of 52.59m (172-06).

Abigail Grider led the women on the track, ending as the top team finisher and second overall in the women's 5K with a time of 18:02.89. Her time is the fourth-best time by an ISU runner this season.

Competition will resume tomorrow at noon with the men's discus throw, while action on the track will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET with the 4X100-meter relays.
