CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Indiana State men's and women's track and field teams will head to Southern Illinois this weekend to open the outdoor season at the Bill Cornell Classic.

The Sycamores are coming off second place finishes on both the men's and women's sides at the MVC Indoor Championships.

Erin Reese earned an MVC championship in the weight throw with the second best mark in school history of 21.06m (69-01.25) at the MVC Indoor Championships and will start her outdoor season by competing in the discus throw and hammer throw over the weekend. At Dayton she threw the school-record in both the discus and hammer throws at 50.87m (166-10.00) and 63.43m (208-01.00), respectively.

Joining Reese in the field will be
Cassaundra Roper who is fresh off of an All-MVC performance at the MVC Indoor Championships where she took second in the shot put with a distance of 14.82m (48-07.50). She will be competing in the hammer throw and shot put this weekend at SIU.

Junior
Brooke Moore will be looking to make a return trip to the NCAA East Regional in 2018. Moore won the 1500-meter run at the MVC Outdoor Championships last year and ran the school-record time of 4:18.64 at the NCAA East Regional en route to a 16th-place finish. On Saturday Moore will be competing in the 800-meter run where she owns the fourth-fastest time in school history at 2:06.74.

After a stellar indoor season,
Ayanna Morgan will compete in the 100-meter hurdles on Saturday where she already holds the seventh-best time (wind-aided) in school history at 14.08. During the indoor season she broke the school-record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.39. Her teammates
Patrycja Dziekonska and
Caitlyn Redmon will also join her in the 100-meter hurdles. Dziekonska owns the third overall time (wind-aided) in ISU history at 13.73 and Redmon sits at sixth all-time at 14.07.

Also looking to build off of an impressive indoor season will be senior high jumper
Jaime Murtagh. Murtagh claimed an MVC championship in the high jump with the seventh highest jump ISU history at 2.14m (7-00.25). During the 2017 outdoor season he qualified for and competed at the NCAA East Regional where he took 36th overall.

Scott Schreiber and
Gino Brown will be competing in the field for the men on Saturday as well. Brown took second in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 14.79m (48-06.25) and Schreiber took third in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 7.43m (24-04.50).

Competition on Friday at SIU will consist of the men's and women's discus throws at 4:30 p.m. ET. Saturday's field events are slated to start at 12:00 p.m. ET with the men's hammer throw, while action on the track will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET with the women's 3000-meter steeplechase.
