HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Indiana State returns to the links this weekend as they make their second trip to the Palmetto State this spring in traveling to the Low Country Intercollegiate to be held at the Moss Creek Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday, March 17-18. The event, hosted by Wofford, is scheduled for 36 holes total with one round each day.
"We are really looking forward to our work outside this week," head coach
Greg Towne said. "Moss Creek is a well groomed and difficult course that has some run out on the drives and greens which will be a lot like our conference event in Wichita. I am encouraging our players to learn some new shots around the greens and keep expanding their skill set."
The Sycamores head into the event with a lineup of
Thilda Staubo,
Sophie Benetti,
Sierra Hargens,
Robyn Blanchard, and
Dawn Turner.
Alex Jennings is also on the trip and will be competing as an individual. Indiana State concluded their play at the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Classic with a round of 313 which was tied for the 12th-best third round showing in the history of the program. Benetti led the way for the Sycamores with a 74 on the final day in a round that featured four birdies for the junior.
Indiana State enters the week as the No. 5 team in the Missouri Valley Conference with an average team score of 309.00 through six tournaments so far this year.
Sierra Hargens leads the team with a 76.57 stroke average and is ranked No. 9 in the MVC while
Thilda Staubo is averaging a 77.0 mark and is No. 11.
Sophie Benetti is averaging a score of 77.43 to rank 16th in the league.
Robyn Blanchard checks in at No. 34 with an 80.0 stroke average while
Dawn Turner's mark of 81.89 is 48th.
Indiana State will be joined in the field by:Â Wofford, The Citadel, Bethune-Cookman, Gardner-Webb, Seton Hall, USC Upstate, USC Beaufort, Findlay, Appalachian State, Presbyterian College, Albany and Quinnipiac.
