MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Bella Peterson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored but a four-run sixth inning for the host Memphis Tigers proved too much to overcome for Indiana State in a 9-2 loss Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Memphis Softball Tournament.
Â
Peterson's single through the left side in the top of the first scored
Leslie Sims and gave the Sycamores (12-8) the early 1-0 lead. A freshman, Peterson would score on an error after
Rebecca Gibbs laid down a sacrifice bunt in the fourth inning.
Â
Memphis (16-5) would tie the game in the bottom of the first then score two in the bottom of the second, taking a 3-1 lead. That lead would not be relinquished. After Peterson's run in the fourth cut the Memphis lead to one, the host Tigers responded with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before a two-run home run and a two-run double put the game out of reach in the sixth.
Â
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Bella Peterson was 2-for-3 in the game and the only Sycamore to register multiple hits and the only Indiana State player with an RBI in the game.
