KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Indiana State saved their best golf of the opening week for the final round of the 2018 Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Classic played on Tuesday at the par-72, 5,941-yard layout of the Oak Point Golf Club on the Kiawah Island Resort.
"We had some good play today especially in rough weather," head coach
Greg Towne said. "We have high expectations for our seasons but I didn't have any high ones this week. We obviously haven't gotten outside to work on our short game and it showed. When our courses open we can quickly get up to speed. It was great to get some rust off and we are looking forward to coming back here in a few weeks."
Sophie Benetti led the way on third and final day of the tournament with a four birdie round and a team-best score of 74. He had scores of 79 and 81 earlier this week for a total of 234 and a tie for 123rd place.
Thilda Staubo finished in Top 100 of the individual race after firing a 78 on the final day which combines with rounds of 74 and 79 for a total of 231 and a tie for 92nd place.
Dawn Turner posted a final round of 80 which followed her earlier rounds of 85 and 86 for a total of 251 and a finish in 196th place.
Sierra Hargens carded a round of 81 on Tuesday which followed rounds of 77 and 81 for a total of 239 and a tie for 147th.
Robyn Blanchard's round of 87 came after rounds of 81 and 89 for a total of 260 and a 208th place finish.
In one of the largest collegiate golf tournaments of the season, Indiana State stands in 37th place out of 43 teams. ISU fired its best team score of the week with a mark of 313 on Tuesday which combined with earlier scores of 318 and 322 on day two for a total of 953. College of Charleston won the event with tally of 872.
Indiana State returns to area on March 17-18 to take part in the Low Country Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C.
