CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Indiana State scored three runs in the top of the seventh to break open a tie and claim a 7-4 win over Tennessee Tech Saturday at the Chattanooga Challenge.
Brooke Mann was 3-for-4 with three doubles and
Rebecca Gibbs drove in two runs in a 2-for-4 game but it was a clutch hit by freshman
Bella Peterson that pushed the Sycamores ahead for good. Peterson's single to left center put the Sycamores up for good and completed a comeback after Tennessee Tech (2-6) took the lead after a four-run first inning.
The
Rebecca Gibbs triple – the first extra-base hit of her career – added to a Sycamore lead in the seventh and
Abbey Kruzel clinched the first win of her career after sitting the Golden Eagles down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
While there are several good candidates for this, the honor goes to
Arielle Blankenship after five solid innings in the circle. Despite not receiving a decision, Blankenship did not surrender a run and only allowed four hits in the game. The freshman hurler struck out four and only walked two batters.
STAT OF THE GAME
The five extra-base hits Indiana State registered equaled the total number of hits the Sycamores had against Chattanooga Friday evening and was more than the total number of hits knocked against Sacred Heart in the season opener.
