CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Sycamores had some strong performances at the EIU Friday Night Special, highlighted by
Ayanna Morgan's new school record in the 60-meter hurdles.
Â
"We came over for a tune-up for the MVC Championships next weekend and to let some of our athletes have one last indoor competition," head coach
Angela Martin said. "The women hurdlers did an outstanding job led by
Ayanna Morgan's school record run. Our throwers and vaulters had a great day as well."
Â
Ayanna Morgan claimed victory in the 60-meter hurdles in the most impressive performance of the night, crossing the line at 8.39 for the school record which overtakes Carmelia Stewart's time of 8.42 from 2014. Morgan once again sits alone at the top of the Missouri Valley.
Â
Morgan wasn't alone at the top of the 60-meter hurdles, as
Patrycja Dziekonska also placed in the top three with a third-place finish at 8.54, just .01 away from her personal best. Her time was her 2018 indoor best and she moves up to fourth in the MVC.
Â
In the field for the women,
Emily Brady led the way with a career day in the pole vault. Brady won the women's pole vault with a new personal-best mark of 3.74m (23-05.00) which keeps her in third in the conference, but widens the gap between third and fourth.
Â
Caitlyn Redmon also earned a victory, winning the women's long jump with a mark of 5.65m (18-06.50). Her mark of 5.77m (18-11.25) from the Gladstein Invite still keeps her at fifth in the MVC.
Â
The weight throw also produced good results for ISU, as
Erin Reese went head-to-head with conference leader Alexis Roberson from Southern Illinois. Reese gave Roberson a good fight and unleashed her second-best throw in a Sycamore uniform at 19.38m (63-07.00), but ultimately finished second in the event. She still sits at second in the MVC and 43rd in the nation from her mark of 19.45m (63-09.75) from the Meyo Invite.
Â
Indiana State's pole vaulters led the way on the men's side with the top-three all being Sycamores. Junior
Riley Smith came out on top with a career-best mark of 4.84m (15-10.50), which keeps him at fifth in the Valley.
Â
Trey Kennedy finished right behind Smith in second with a mark of 4.69m (15-04.50), but his mark of 4.88m (16-00.00) from the EIU Early Bird sits at fourth in the conference.
Antoine Howard took home third-place with a mark of 4.54m (14-10.75).
Â
A group of Sycamores will be back in action tomorrow at the Alex Wilson Invite at Notre Dame. Competition is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. ET with the women's weight throw, women's pole vault and women's long jump.
