SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Indiana State men's and women's track and field teams will split squad this weekend and send athletes to the Meyo Invite at Notre Dame and the Indiana Wesleyan University Invite.
Â
Both the Indiana State men's and women's teams are ranked 11th this week in the Great Lakes Regional rankings. The women's team is still ranked in the top-25 nationally in dual meet rankings, staying in at 21st.
Â
The Meyo Invite attracts some of the nation's top athletes each year, and currently two Sycamores sit inside the top-50 in their events.
Daley Carter owns a time of 7.87 in the 60-meter hurdles, which puts him at second in the conference and 26th in the nation.
Â
On the women's side,
Erin Reese sits at 50th in the country in the weight throw after posting a mark of 18.96m (62-02.50) at the Gladstein Invite. Her mark is good enough for second in the Valley and eighth all-time at Indiana State.
Â
Ayanna Morgan will look to continue her dominance in the 60-meter hurdles this weekend in South Bend. Last weekend at the Mark Messersmith Invite at UNI, Morgan put on another impressive performance by winning the event with a new career-best time of 8.43, best in the MVC and second all-time at ISU.
Â
Making her debut in the 3K this season will be
Taylor Austin, who will be competing in the invitational section and owns the fourth-best time in school history at 9:48.36 from 2016. This season she has competed primarily in the mile, where she is number one in the Valley and owns the second-best time in Indiana State history.
Â
Hunter Schuman,
Cassaundra Roper, and
Jasmine Noel will lead the Sycamores in the throws at the Meyo Invite. Schuman is coming off of a second-place performance in the weight throw at the Mark Messersmith Invite. His mark of 18.59m (61-00.00) is third in the MVC.
Â
Roper will be competing in both the shot put and weight throw. Her mark of 14.55m (47-09.00) in the shot put is second in the conference and she is third in the conference in the weight throw at 18.77m (61-07.00). Close behind Roper in the weight throw is Noel, who sits at fifth in the Valley with a mark of 18.73m (61-05.50) from the Mark Messersmith Invite.
Â
Five Sycamores currently sit atop their events in the Missouri Valley Conference, including
Brittany Neeley (800-meter run),
Taylor Austin (mile),
Ayanna Morgan (60-meter hurdles),
Kim Jackson (pole vault) and
Gino Brown (triple jump).
Â
The delegation of Sycamores heading to IWU include all of the ISU pole vaulters and high jumpers, as well as a few distance runners, hurdlers and sprinters.
Â
Leading the women at IWU will be
Kim Jackson in the pole vault, who is coming off of a career-best performance at the Mark Messersmith Invite. She recorded a mark of 3.75m (12-03.50) which increased her already Valley-leading mark in the event. Jackson now holds the 10th-best indoor mark in school history.
Â
Trey Kennedy will lead the men at IWU in the pole vault, as he currently is fourth in the MVC with a mark of 4.88m (16-00.00), which he recorded at the EIU Early Bird meet.
Â
