Sycamores to Face Off with Salukis in Final Regular Season Meet

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State will travel to Carbondale, Ill. to face off with Missouri Valley Conference rival Southern Illinois on Jan. 27 at 12 p.m.

Indiana State enters the meet coming off yet another huge win over the Ball State Cardinals.

The Sycamores dominated the competition pool as they won every event except for the diving and the 100 butterfly.

Multiple Sycamores placed for Indiana State as the entire team showed a strong performance.

Some especially notable performances came from freshmen Vivian Kritikou and Marlene Pavlu Lewin as they earned their first wins of their college careers.

Kritikou placed first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:35.81 as Pavlu Lewin left her mark on the 100 freestyle with a time 54.19.

Another strong performance came from sophomore Mykenzie Kostka as she broke one minute in the 100 butterfly for the first time this season with a time of 59.86.

Numerous other Sycamores continued the string of first place finishes during their own events.

Hansen added yet another first place finish for the Sycamores in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.34. She would add another win later in the meet finishing first in the 200 backstroke with a 2:05.65.

Megan Schade, Jacquie Price and Alex Malmborg added the next three wins for ISU in the 100 breast, 200 butterfly and 50 freestyle.

The Sycamores currently hold a 13-5 record after their win over Ball State.

Indiana State will now face off with conference rival SIU in their final regular season meet.

The Salukis enter the matchup coming off a fourth place finish at the Butler Invite.

Southern Illinois has had a historically successful program within the MVC as they placed first at the 2015-2016 MVC Championship meet and came in second place this past season.

Following this meet the Sycamores will have a couple weeks to prepare for the 2017-2018 MVC Championship meet in Iowa City, Iowa from Feb. 14 to Feb. 17.
