Sycamore track and field with several strong performances at Jack Jennett Open

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Indiana State men's and women's track and field teams recorded several strong performances throughout the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon at day two of the Jack Jennett Open.

"We had some really good things happen and had a number of personal-bests," assistant coach Anthony Bertoli said. "We have a lot that we can improve on, but overall as a group I thought we did a really good job of dealing with adversity. If an event was a little down or way down, they kept fighting, kept their heads up and kept their positive attitude while staying focused for the next event. We did really well mentally."

Ayanna Morgan started the pentathlon off with a bang, winning the 60-meter hurdles at 8.57. She then continued her winning ways by coming out on top in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.59m (18-04.25). Morgan also led the Sycamores in the 800-meter run, taking fifth-place at 2:36.70. Overall, she placed fourth with 3399 points, which is a new career-best for her in the pentathlon, overtaking her previous best by 191 points.

Caitlyn Redmon managed to string together multiple impressive performances as well, starting in the high jump where she recorded a mark of 1.58m (5-02.25), enough for fifth. She followed that performance by leading the ISU women in the shot put with a fourth-place finish at 10.71m (35-01.75), and then taking third in the long jump with a mark of 5.44m (17-10.25). Redmon finished seventh overall with 3242 points.

The best performance for Micaela McLean came in the 60-meter hurdles where she finished third at 8.98. She also placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.13m (16-10.00). McLean finished 10th overall in the pentathlon with 2941 points.

On the men's side, Michael Boger led the way for the Sycamores in the heptathlon, finishing fifth overall with 4443 points, improving from his seventh-place position at the end of day one. Boger claimed victory in the pole vault with a mark of 4.35m (14-03.25), which helped boost him into fifth.

In the 1000-meter run, Josh Perry earned his highest finish, taking fourth overall while crossing the line at 2:52.37. Perry finished ninth overall in the heptathlon with 4211 points
