Indiana State Falls to Milwaukee in Second Match of the Weekend

Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Indiana State women's soccer faced off with the Milwaukee Panthers today as their second road match of the weekend. The Sycamores fell to Panthers by a score of 3-0.

The Sycamores entered the match coming off a 2-0 win over Green Bay on Sept. 1. However, ISU struggled from the start to deter the relentless offensive attacks of the Panthers.

Indiana State gave up an early goal in the seventh minute of play when Anna Smalley dribbled into the box after a deflected shot found her feet. Smalley ripped a shot from 16 yards out finding the back of the Sycamore's net, putting Milwaukee up 1-0.

The Sycamores continued to throw players forward into attack, but could not find a rhythm during play. Every pass in the final third was off by inches and ISU generated only three shots on goal.

In the 33rd minute of play the Panthers extended their lead to 2-0 when Mackenzie Schill found a cross inside the Sycamores 18 yard box and finished it off for a goal.

Indiana State found more momentum right before halftime, but was unable to capitalize on any chances.

The score remained 2-0 in favor of Milwaukee going into halftime.

The Sycamores started the second half deadlocked into a defensive battle with the Panthers. Each team was blocking multiple shots and remained organized preventing any threatening offensive chances.

Indiana State recorded five shots during the second half coming from multiple Sycamores including, Caitlyn Eddy, Katie Wells and Tessa Leong. However, the Sycamores were unable to put any away into the Milwaukee net.

Then in the 70th minute of play, the Panthers found another window of opportunity. Smalley broke out down the flank slotting a cross into the box finding McKaela Schmelzer for the Panthers third goal of the match. This put Milwaukee up 3-0 which ultimately was the score when the final whistle blew.

Indiana State came away with 10 shots on the day with Hannah Sullivan making a total of five saves.

The Sycamores will be back in action on Sept. 8 to face Loyola Chicago in their first Missouri Valley Conference matchup of 2017. The game will kick off at 8 p.m. (ET) in Chicago, Ill. and will be aired live on the Valley On ESPN3.
