YORKTOWN, Ind. -- Indiana State saw its five golfers post 15 individual rounds in the 70's over the three rounds of the Ball State Cardinal Classic as they finished 12th of 19 teams in a talented field. The event began with two rounds on Monday and the final round on Tuesday at the par-72, 6,204-yard layout of The Player's Club. It was the first 54 hole event of the fall for the Sycamores.
The start of the final round was delayed by one hour due to rain and lightening before the Sycamores posted a score of 305 which followed rounds of 303 and 305 on Monday for a tournament tally of 913 and a spot in 12th place. ISU edged Central Michigan by six shots with a score of 919 and topped Drake as well as Bowling Green who posted scores of 932 to tie in 14th place. ISU also bested Dayton's score of 936 (16th place), Fort Wayne's 943 (17th place), Northern Kentucky's 945 (18th place) and Evansville who rounded out the field with a score of 977.
Cleveland State edged the Sycamores by just two shots who fired rounds of 292, 299 and 320 for a total of 911. Ball State and Austin Peay each recorded tournament scores of 909 which put the Sycamores just four shots out of a Top 10 finish and they were only eight shots back of an eighth place finish.
Sierra Hargens finished the tournament as the Sycamores' top scorer with rounds of 73, 77 and 75 for a total of 913 and a tie for 29th place. Enjoying the finest three rounds of her Sycamore career was junior
Alex Jennings who posted rounds of 75, 76, and 77 for a tally of 228 and a tie for 43rd place. Jennings entered the event as the No. 5 golfer on head coach

Thilda Staubo steadily improved throughout the tournament with rounds of 78, 76 and 75 a total of 229 and a tie for 45th place.
Robyn Blanchard's scores of 76, 77 and 79 was good enough for a tournament score of 232 and a tie for 53rd place. Rounding out the Sycamores' lineup was
Sophie Benetti who posted rounds of 79, 78 and 78 for a total of 235 and a tie for 66th place.
Indianapolis won the event with rounds of 283, 286 and 294 for a final tally of 863 while Bradley was second with rounds of 284, 292 and 300 for a total of 876. Jacinta Pikunas of Akron posted rounds of 66, 72 and 72 for a total of 210 which won the event by six shots.
Indiana State travels to the Butler Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, October 2 and 3 at the Highland Country Club in Indianapolis.
