TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State Softball head coach Mike Perniciaro has named former Georgia star pitcher Erin Arevalo as pitching coach, Perniciaro announced Wednesday.
 
"I am happy to have Erin as part of our staff," Perniciaro said. "She brings great experience as a player and a wealth of knowledge. Erin will make our pitching staff better, and I look forward to coaching with her."
 
Arevalo comes to Terre Haute following two seasons as an assistant coach at Samford in 2016 and 2017.
 
"I am very excited about joining the Indiana State softball staff, as well as getting the opportunity to learn more from Coach Perniciaro," Arevalo said. "Most importantly, I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge with the student-athletes and helping them toward success in the Missouri Valley Conference."
 
In 2016, Arevalo helped guide Samford to the program's first-ever SoCon Regular Season Championship and SoCon Tournament Championship. As pitching coach, the Bulldogs posted a SoCon-leading team ERA of 3.22 with nine shutout victories and limited opposing offenses to just a .250 batting average under her leadership.

She also helped guide redshirt-senior hurler Mollie Hanson to her first SoCon Pitcher of the Year accolade and SoCon Tournament MVP honors as she tossed her second career no-hitter during the tournament. Arevalo followed that up by mentoring another SoCon All-Tournament pitcher in 2017 in Grey Adams, who helped Samford return to the SoCon title game.
 
Arevalo pitched for head coach Lu Harris-Champer at Georgia from 2009-12 and was a member of the UGA squad that made appearances in the Women's College World Series in 2009 and 2010. In 2009, she pitched four innings of scoreless softball in relief against No.3 Washington to secure a 9-8 victory over the Huskies.

In 2010, she led the Bulldogs to a 50-13 record and a return appearance to the WCWS. Arevalo made 38 trips to the circle and tallied 20 wins, 14 complete games, a 2.51 ERA and 171 strikeouts as Georgia made it all the way to the WCWS semifinals.

Arevalo wrapped up her collegiate career in 2012 with her best season, totaling 28 complete games and a 27-9 record. She ended the season ranked 19th nationally with a 1.43 ERA and 23rd with 270 strikeouts, while only issuing 51 walks through 245 innings pitched. The Lathrop, Calif., native was named NFCA All-American Third Team, NFCA All-Region Second Team, All-SEC Second Team and to the SEC All-Tournament Team in her final season.

She finished her career ranked fourth all-time in Georgia history with 476 strikeouts and was only the fourth pitcher in the program's history to eclipse the 200-strikeout mark in a season.

After receiving her degree in psychology from UGA, Arevalo continued her competitive career for the next two seasons in the NPF with the Akron Racers from 2012-13. Following that, she served as a pitching instructor at the Phoenix Sports Academy and the Power Zone Training Facility prior to her appointment at Samford.
