TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Sycamore women's soccer team will continue the 2017 season facing off with Northern Kentucky inside Memorial Stadium on Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. Indiana State will then travel to Purdue on Sunday for a match at 1 p.m.
The Sycamores enter the matches coming off a 1-0-1 opening weekend against Illinois-Chicago and Eastern Illinois.
Indiana State first defeated UIC on Aug. 18 in their season and home opener when junior
Reilly Teal provided a standout performance scoring two goals in the Sycamores shut out win over the Flames.
Teal scored her first collegiate goal in the 29
th minute of play when
Caitlyn Eddy sent a corner kick into the box finding Teal who rocketed a shot into the back of the net. Teal then scored her second goal late in the 70
th minute.
On Aug. 20 the Sycamores finished off their opening weekend with a 1-1 tie against Eastern Illinois.
Indiana State was the first to get on the board when
Katie Wells deflected an Eddy corner kick into the net in the 33
rd minute of play.
The Panthers then tied the match in the second half when a shot hit the crossbar and an EIU player followed up for the rebound goal.
Each team held strong defensively forcing the match into double overtime ending in a draw.
Indiana State will now welcome of the Norse of Northern Kentucky.
The Norse enter the match 2-0 this season with wins over Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State. Jessica Frey has been leading the way for NKU with six points so far this season coming from three goals.
Indiana State has not faced NKU since a 2013 exhibition match up where the Sycamores defeated the Norse 3-1.
On Aug. 27
th Indiana State will travel to Purdue for their first road match of the 2017 season. The Boilermakers are currently 1-1-0 on the season with a win in their opener against Kent State followed by a 2-1 loss to Loyola Marymount.
Hannah Melchiorre is currently leading the way for Purdue as she holds a team high of four points coming from a total of two goals.
Indiana State is currently ranked second in the Missouri Valley Conference after going undefeated in their opening weekend. The Sycamores sit behind the Valparaiso Crusaders who came away 2-0 to start the season.
