TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State Track & Field Program Director Angela Martin and her staff have announced the men's and women's track and field schedule for the 2017-2018 indoor and outdoor seasons.
 
"We have tried to set up a balanced schedule for our athletes," Head Coach Angela Martin said. "We have a lot of Indiana kids on our team and it's nice to stay fairly close to home for some meets and allow our team to have friends and family come support them. We have sought out some meets that our top-end athletes can have good competition to prep them for NCAA and Preliminary Round competition."
 
The Sycamores will open the 2017-2018 indoor season on Dec. 8 at the EIU Early Bird meet in Charleston, Ill. Both teams will then travel right down the road to Rose-Hulman for the Terre Haute Double Dual where they will compete for the Coughlan-Malloy Cup once again on Jan. 12. The teams get to stay in Indiana the next weekend, as they will head to Indiana University on Jan. 19-20 for the Gladstein Invitational before finishing up the month of January at the Messersmith Invitational on Jan. 27 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
 
Indiana State will kick off February competition with a split weekend at the Meyo Invitational and IWU Invitational on Feb. 2-3 in South Bend, Ind., and Marion, Ind., respectively. The Sycamores will come back together to compete at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn., on Feb. 9-10. The teams will then split one more time before the MVC Indoor Championships, competing at the EIU Friday Night Special in Charleston, Ill., and the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Feb. 16-17.
 
The Sycamore men and women will compete against their fellow MVC schools at the MVC Indoor Championships on Feb. 24-25 at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Fall, Iowa. The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas for the second consecutive year on March 9-10.
 
The 2018 outdoor season will start off with the Bill Cornell Classic hosted by Southern Illinois on March 23-24. It will be one of 12 scheduled meets, including postseason competition. The Sycamores will split the following weekend, sending athletes to the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., and the Ole Miss Classic in Oxford, Miss., on March 30-31.
 
The Gibson Invitational will be held on April 6-7 at the Gibson Track and Field Complex, before the Sycamores hit the road again for the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., on Apr. 13-14. Both teams will return home the following weekend to host the Pacesetter Sports Invitational. Following the Pacesetter Invitational, ISU will gear up for the historic Drake Relays on Apr. 26-28, where many of the nation's elite athletes will gather to compete at one of the country's most prestigious regular season meets.
 
After competing at the Drake Relays, the teams will head to Indiana University to compete at the Billy Hayes Invitational on May 4 before heading home for the MVC Outdoor Championships.
 
"The most exciting thing on our schedule is that we get to host the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships," Coach Martin said. "We love to compete at home and our staff is ecstatic to host several home meets."
 
Indiana State will host the 2018 MVC Outdoor Championships from May 11-13, returning to Terre Haute for the second time in three years, as ISU last hosted in 2016. The season will conclude with the NCAA East Prelims in Tampa, Fla., on May 24-26, and the NCAA Outdoor Championships will follow in Eugene, Ore., from June 6-9. The US Championships will take place from June 21-24.
