Terre Haute, Ind.—Indiana State swimming and diving has once again been honored for their academic excellence.
The Sycamores earned the CSCAA Scholar All-American Award for their academic success in the spring 2017 semester. The award recognizes those programs that earned and maintained a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
The CSAA award is given twice a year following each academic semester. The young squad also earned this honor following their fall semester.
"Having Indiana State earn its second ever CSCAA Scholar Team honors in indicative of the steps this program is continuing to take in the right direction. We highly value academic success and our young ladies are proving that you can succeed at a high level in both the classroom and pool," said assistant coach
Rebecca Westfall.
Following the Missouri Valley Conference meet in February five members of the 2016-17 squad earned MVC Scholar-Athlete honors. These included
Cierra Campbell,
Kendall Hansen,
Mykenzie Kostka,
Allie Engstrom and
Alex Malmborg.
These five maintained anywhere from a 3.5 to 4.0 grade point average across a variety of majors.
Indiana State looks to continue this academic success while also improving their performance in the pool. The Sycamores hope to climb the MVC standing during their upcoming season.
Last year Indiana State improved every week during their inaugural season, but fell short at the Missouri Valley Conference meet. Two Sycamores,
Blanca Saez-Illobre and
Jacquie Price, earned All-MVC honors following competition.
This fall Indiana State will welcome eight more members to the program ranging from incoming freshmen to experienced transfers. The coaching staff feels that these student-athletes fit the mold for the Sycamore program and will help raise the bar for future success.
