TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State women's basketball program has announced the hiring of
Evan Dodd as an assistant coach for the 2017-18 season. Dodd will join head coach
Joey Wells and assistant coaches
Josh Keister and
Janet Eaton on the bench.
"I'm extremely grateful to coach Wells for giving me this opportunity," Dodd said. "Getting back on the court and into a coaching position is something I've been striving for and I'm excited to get started with this great coaching staff and talented group of student-athletes."
Dodd is very familiar with the team after serving as a graduate assistant for the past two seasons, focusing mainly on video but also handling operation duties as well for the Sycamores. In his new role, he will oversee team camps, recruiting, scouting and work primarily with post players.
"I could not be more excited to announce
Evan Dodd as our new assistant coach for Sycamore Women's Basketball," Wells said. "He's been with us for nearly six years now as a practice player and a graduate assistant most recently. I know it was something that he's been striving towards and he's been tremendous behind the scenes for us."
"His drive and his work ethic are really going to be beneficial for us," Wells said. "He also has great relationships with the players. We're really, really excited about this opportunity."
A high school basketball standout, Dodd played two seasons at Hauser High before playing his final two seasons at state powerhouse Columbus North. In his career, he scored over 1,000 points and was a four-time all-conference selection and three-time all-area honoree.
As a senior at Columbus North, Dodd averaged 14.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.1 blocks per game and led the Bulldogs to sectional appearances in his two seasons. He was a named to the North/South All-Star game and was one of Hoosier Magazine's Top 60 seniors in 2011.
Dodd graduated from ISU in May 2015 with a degree in physical education with a minor in sport management. He earned his master's degree in sport management in 2017 and resides in Terre Haute.
