Indiana State Maintains High APR Marks In Latest Report

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Highlighted by multi-year marks of 980 and above for five different programs and four more who earned perfect scores in 2015-16, all of Indiana State's athletic teams have met and exceeded the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate multi-year standard for the seventh straight year as the NCAA released its latest Division I APR data from the 2015-16 academic year.

"We are proud of our student-athletes for being successful both on the field and in the classroom," Director of Athletics Sherard Clinkscales said. "The hard work of Joel McMullen, Tonya Sawyer, Michelle Stodden and Linda Maule have insured that our APR scores are continually on the rise and in most cases exceed the national average. This report is further proof of our dedication to academic success for our student-athletes and our goal to help them earn their degree and become productive members of society after graduation."

Indiana State's highest multi-year ratings came from volleyball (994), softball (992), women's golf (987), women's cross country (982) and women's soccer (980). During the 2015-16 academic year, four programs achieved perfect scores of 1,000 for their efforts in the classroom. Highlighted by a perfect score from men's basketball, three other programs including men's cross country, softball and volleyball also posted perfect marks of 1,000.

The Sycamores' one year all-sports APR score for 2015-16 was 971 and the multi-year average for all sports was 972. This data does not include the women's swimming and diving program as their first APR date will be released for the 2016-17 academic year.

Women's Track & Field posted a multi-year score of 976 while Baseball recorded a mark of 970. Men's Cross Country was next with a score of 968 while Men's Basketball tallied a score of 966. Men's Track & Field recorded a mark of 955 while Women's Basketball was at 949 and Football posted a score of 948.

The Academic Progress Rate measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team and also serves as a predictor of graduation success. Each year, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scorecard of academic achievement, known as APR. The score measures eligibility and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.
