TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Former Sycamore All-American long snapper
Joshua Appel has been invited for a camp tryout with the New York Giants.
Appel, a two-time First-Team All-America selection, joins
Robert Tonyan Jr. (Detroit Lions) and
Jameer Thurman (San Francisco 49ers) as ISU's recent pickups by NFL teams. Tonyan signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Lions, while Thurman was invited to camp out in San Francisco.
Appel was widely regarded as one of the finest long snappers in the nation during his illustrious four-year career with the Sycamores, which included two overall titles at the Chris Rubio long snapping camp that features the top long snappers in Division I each summer.
A finance major and native of Normal, Ill., Appel started in all 48 games of his Indiana State career without a single botched snap. In addition to his two First-Team All-American honors, Appel also earned two Preseason All-America honors in 2015 (Second-Team) and 2016 (First-Team). In his career, Appel was a two-time First-Team All-MVFC honoree and a two-time MVFC All-Academic Team member.
