Sycamore Basketball Adds Clayton Hughes To Roster

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State Basketball head coach Greg Lansing announced today (April 28) the addition of Clayton Hughes to the incoming class for the 2017-18 campaign. Hughes has signed his scholarship offer and will join the team this fall.

Hughes is a 6-6 guard who hails from Jackson, Tenn., where he played in high school for the University School of Jackson for coach Oliver Simmons, who was a member of Kentucky's 1996 National Championship Team. After his high school graduation, Hughes played this past season at Hargrave Military Academy, where he played for coach AW Hamilton, who played collegiately for Wake Forest and Marshall.

"We are excited to welcome Clayton Hughes to the Sycamore Basketball Family," head coach Greg Lansing said. "Clayton has fought through adversity already in his career and made the decision to enroll at Hargrave Military Academy after high school. He really came on strong last season down the stretch and helped Hargrave reach the national Final Four. Clayton is extremely athletic but also has great touch from the perimeter. All the credit goes to Marcus Belcher, who has stepped right in to his new role as Associate Head Coach and picked up a solid prospect in the spring."

He was a finalist for the Tennessee Mr. Basketball award following his senior year at the University School of Jackson. Hughes was a three-time all-state selection where he averaged 22 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game as a senior. He wrapped his high school career with 1,500 points scored. At Hargrave, he helped the team to a 43-2 final record as well as a berth in the national Final Four. Hargrave went on to finish third nationally as Hughes averaged 14 points per game down the stretch.

Hughes joins fall signees Tyreke Key (Celina, Tenn./Clay County High School), Devin Thomas (Richmond, Ind./Mineral Area College) and Daniel Huenermann (St. Gallen , Switzerland/ Kantonschule am Burggraben) who will join the program this upcoming season.
