Sycamore men and women come away victors after dominant final day of Pacesetter Invite

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – It was a day of dominance for the Sycamores at the conclusion of the Pacesetter Invite, as both the men's and women's teams captured team titles to send the senior class out in style on Saturday. The Sycamore women were victorious with a 242-119 decision over Saint Louis, while the Sycamore men defeated Milwaukee 299-161.

"This is a great group of seniors," said ISU head coach Angela Martin. "We've had some very high-caliber athletes that were All-Americans and national qualifiers, and every one of those student-athletes has contributed to our team. We're very proud of them and thankful that they are Sycamores, and they will be forever."

The day was filled with impressive performances, as the Sycamores claimed 14 individual titles and four relay victories.

"We had some really good moments," Martin said. "We let the weather get in our heads just a little bit, but it was a good, solid win. I think our athletes love being at home, and I think we had some good things going today."

On the track, junior Taylor Austin won the women's 1500-meter run with a time of 4:34.57.  Her time of 4:27.29 from two weeks ago sits at fourth in the Valley.

In the men's 400-meter dash, Tyrell Dowdell claimed his second victory in as many weeks with a time of 47.71. Last week's time of 47.24 is currently 32nd in the NCAA East Region and second in the Valley.

Freshman Justine Corya recorded a new wind-legal personal record en route to a victory in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 12.29.

The Sycamore men and women were triumphant in the 200-meter dash. Tristan Parmley won with a time of 21.20, which would have been a personal best, but the wind came in too strong at 4.2 meters per second, making it unrecognized by the NCAA.

Shana Cooper came away with a win in the women's 200 with a time of 24.57, which is a new personal record and 11th in the MVC. Oschtisha Jackson finished right behind her with a time of 24.81, which is also a personal record.

The men's 3,000-meter steeplechase saw freshman Seth Cousins victorious with a new personal record of 9:29.80. His time is sixth in the Valley.

All four Sycamore relay teams came away with victories in their events.

The men's 4x100-meter relay team, composed of Scott Schreiber, Jaynard Keys, Devyn Mikell and Tristan Parmley, won with a time of 41.37.

In the women's 4x100, Shana Cooper, Patrycja Dziekonska, Oschtisha Jackson and Ahmanah Woods came away with a win at a time of 47.04, which is eighth in the Valley.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Alethia Marrero, Amani Davis, Oschtisha Jackson and Imani Hall were victorious with a time of 3:48.80, which is seventh in the MVC.

Liam McGrath, Tyrell Dowdell, Daley Carter and Charles Sykes won the men's 4X4 with a time of 3:18.97.

The Sycamore men and women also found success in the field on Saturday.

Junior Breanna Herring was triumphant in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.37m (11-00.75). The men completed the pole vault sweep, with Trey Kennedy winning at a height of 4.73m (15-06.25).

In the men's high jump, junior Jaime Murtagh came out victorious with a mark of 2.06m (6-09.00). His mark of 2.12m (6-11.50) from two weeks ago is still 38th in the NCAA, 19th in the East Region, and second in the MVC.

Junior Hunter Schuman took the crown in the men's shot put with a season-best performance distance of 16.30m (53-05.75), currently ninth in the Valley.

A familiar face won the women's shot put, as Cassaundra Roper also had a season-best performance with a distance of 14.18m (46-06.25). Her distance is fourth in the Valley.

In the women's discus, Jada Jackson claimed a victory with a distance of 45.24m (148-05).

The Sycamores also swept the men's and women's long jump. Devyn Mikell won the men's title after leaping 7.21m (23-08.00), but the wind came in at 4.2. Sophomore Caitlin Redmon took the women's edition at 5.78m (18-11.75) – narrowly off her season-best 5.82m (19-01.25) from three weeks ago.
