Uradomo Just Two Shots Back Heading Into MVC Championship Final Round

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Indiana State improved to seventh overall after the second round of the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Championships while senior Marissa Uradomo is just two shots back of the individual leader heading into the final round on Tuesday. The tournament, hosted by Southern Illinois, is being held at the Dalhousie Golf Club, which is a par-72, 6,214-yard layout.

Play was delayed until the afternoon and still the first half of the round was played under rainy conditions for the most part. The Sycamores carded a team score of 325 one day after posting a 320 and their total of 645 is now in seventh place -- one spot above their standing after the first day. Missouri State's two-day score of 616 is in first place by 13 shots over defending champion Wichita State who is at a 629. The Sycamores are just two shots behind Loyola (643) for sixth place and trail host Southern Illinois (635) by eight for fifth place. Northern Iowa and Bradley are tied at 634 in third place. Behind the Sycamores are Illinois State (646), Evansville (652) and Drake (656).

"The elements haven't helped the scores, but this has proved to be a tough lay-out for the teams competing this weekend," head coach Greg Towne said. "Marissa has hung in nicely and she finished with a pair of birdies and Sierra tacked on an eagle on the final hole so there have been some bright spots."

Uradomo is in the hunt to become the first Sycamores to take Missouri Valley Conference medalist honors. She followed up her opening round of 72 with a 74 on Monday and her two-day total of 146 is just two shots behind Evansville's Kayla Katterhenry for the top spot. Uradomo went birdie-birdie on the final two holes.  Katterhenry has carded even par rounds of 72 on the first two days.

The rain and tough layout inflated scores on Monday as Thilda Staubo came back from an opening day score of 78 to post an 85 and her two-day tally of 163 is tied for 24th place. Robyn Blanchard rebounded from a opening round of 84 to score a 79 on day two for a total of 163 which is also tied for 24th place. Freshman Sierra Hargens recorded back-to-back rounds of 87 to post a score of 174 and is in 47th place. Hargens shook off a tough round by recorded an eagle on the final hole to post a counting score. Rounding out the lineup, Sophie Benetti posted a second round score of 89 which followed her opening round of 86 for a total of 175 and a spot in a tie for 48th place.

The final round will begin at 10 am (ET) with tee times coming off of holes No. 1 and No. 10. Live stats for the tournament can be found here.
