CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- The Indiana State women's golf team is in eighth place after the opening day of the Missouri Valley Conference Championships while senior
Marissa Uradomo is well up the leaderboard in a tie for 2nd place in the individual race. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,214-yard layout of the Dalhousie Country Club. The event is being hosted by Southern Illinois.
Uradomo carded an even par round of 72 and is tied for second place with Evansville's Kayla Katterhenry. They both trail Verena Gimmy of Missouri State who posted an opening round of 69. Sophomore
Thilda Staubo is six shots back of Uradomo as she tallied an first round score of 78 and is tied for 13th place.
"We got em right where we want them," head coach
Greg Towne said. "I feel good about our typical bounce back. Had a great first nine but just ran into some trouble on the back."
The Sycamores will have some work to on Monday and Tuesday as they currently sit in eighth place after a round of 320. Missouri State leads after the first 18 holes as they posted a tally of 302 while Bradley is a close second at 308. Northern Iowa has surprised early as they carded an opening round of 310 and are in third place. The defending champion Wichita State is in fourth place after firing an opening round of 313 while Loyola is fifth at 315. Illinois State (317) and host Southern Illinois (318) are just ahead of the Sycamores while Drake (325) and Evansville (330) round out the field.
Robyn Blanchard fired an opening round of 84 and is tied for 39th while
Sophie Benetti's 86 is tied for 44th. Freshman
Sierra Hargens carded a first round of 87 and is tied for 46th place.
Weather has played a factor in the event so far as the start time on Sunday was moved up two hours to beat the incoming weather while Monday's second round will be delayed until 2 pm (ET) as overnight rain and storms are expected. Live stats for the event will be updated
