TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State University held the first-ever Samy Awards Show at the Hulman Center on Monday night to honor Sycamore student-athletes and coaches on their success over the previous year.
Below are the honorees from tonight's program.
Male Newcomer of the Year:
Winner: Tyler Ward, Baseball
Nominees: Jerry Nunez, Football; Hunter Schuman, Track & Field
Female Newcomer of the Year:
Winner: Imani Davis, Track & Field
Nominees: Blanca Saez-Illobre, Swimming & Diving; Damadj Johnson, Volleyball
Biggest Upset:
Winner: Men's Basketball's 72-71 win over No. 15 Butler
Nominees: Football's 34-31 win over No. 9 Illinois State; Golf's second-place finish at MVC Championships
Sycamore Cup:
Awarded to the team that shows a devotion to success in all aspects of life through community service, school spirit, academic achievement and leadership on campus.
Winner: Women's Soccer
President's Cup:
Awarded to the team with the highest cumulative GPA.
Winner: Women's Soccer
Game Changer Award:
Awarded to a male or female student-athlete who was involved in a pivotal moment in competition that impacted the outcome of the game or match.
Winner: Brittany San Roman, Soccer
Nominees: Ashley Taia, Women's Basketball; Marissa Uradomo, Golf
Best Moment:
An emotionally-charged successful moment for an individual or team.
Winner: Brooke Moore breaking school record in mile
Nominees: Soccer's shootout upset over Drake in MVC Tournament; Alethia Marrero and Imani Davis finishing one-two at MVC Indoor Championships
Gillum Award:
This award recognizes a graduating student-athlete who has attained the highest GPA while displaying outstanding leadership abilities.
Winner: Bree Spangler, Volleyball
Presidential Scholar-Athletes:

Duane Klueh Coach of the Year Award:
Awarded annually to the head coach who most exemplifies the qualities Duane Klueh modeled – leadership, dedication, community-minded, commitment to academics and athletic success.

John McNichols Award:
The John McNichols Award is Indiana State's highest athletic award given annually to the top male and female student-athlete who most exemplifies the standard of excellence that Coach McNichols displayed during his championship filled career at Indiana State.
