BEAUMONT, Texas -- Indiana State continued its week-long Spring Break trip to Texas as they opened play on Friday (March 17) at the Lamar Cardinal Challenge. The event is being held at the Beaumont Country Club on a par-71, 6,008-yard layout.

The Sycamores are in third place among the nine team field after carding an opening round team score of 310. Host Lamar leads the tournament after posting a score of 293. Bradley is second with a tally of 303 while the Sycamores are ahead of UT-Rio Grande Valley and Southern Illinois who carded rounds of 312. 

"We have two players in the top five while the others are starting to put it all together," head coach Greg Towne said. "I have a good feeling about everyone's mental state. They shifted from a results mindset to a learning mindset. It's what we need to do in order to get ready for the conference championship. It has been nice to get our jackets off and play golf this week."

Marissa Uradomo led the way for the Sycamores with an even par round of 71 and is in second place. Sophomore Thilda Staubo posted a score of 74 and she is currently in fourth place. Alex Jennings carded a round of 82 and she is tied for 30th place. Robyn Blanchard's round of 83 ties her for 34th place while Sierra Hargens tallied a round of 87 to tie her for 43rd place. Playing as an individual, Dawn Turner's round of 85 is good enough for 41st place.

Play at the Cardinal Classic continues on Saturday, March 18 at 2 pm (ET) with a shotgun start.
