Terre Haute, Ind.—Indiana State women's soccer senior,
Maddie Orf, has signed to play professionally for IFK Timrå in Timrå, Sweden.
"I am beyond excited to continue my soccer career with IFK Timrå! I think it will offer opportunities and challenges that will help me grow both as a player and person," said Orf.
Orf has always wanted to continue her career and IFK Timrå head coach Kent Gustafsson, with the help of ISU head coach
Julie Hanley, have given her the opportunity.
"We couldn't be more thrilled for Maddie and her opportunity to continue her soccer career. She represented everything that we want our program to stand for here at Indiana State and will always be someone we point to for future Sycamores to follow," said Hanley.
Timrå is part of the Division I North League. The team played their first year in this division last season placing sixth overall and hoping to break into the top four this upcoming season.
Overall the club is home to 21 different teams, with ages ranging from the youngest players to the senior level. Most of the younger age group teams compete at the Division II level.
Timrå is a small village in Sweden that is home to only 17,000 people. However, it is located very close to Sundsvall which is home to over 100,000.
Orf will be joining the team along with two or three other players from the United States and one from Nigeria. Timrå feels that she will be a valuable asset to their program due to her wide skill set and prior accomplishments.
During her collegiate career with ISU Orf earned First Team All-Conference honors following her 2014 and 2016 seasons. She also earned Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete honors following three seasons as well as the Commissioners Excellence award twice. Orf was also named to the MVC All-Freshmen team following her freshman campaign in 2013.
This past season, Orf led the Sycamores to their best year since 2013. Indiana State placed fourth overall in the MVC with a 2-3-2 record. ISU then competed in the MVC tournament semifinal match against Illinois State where they fell by an overtime goal from the Redbirds.
Orf started in all 73 games of her collegiate career. She scored 21 goals and added nine assists during her time as a Sycamore. This added up to 51 career points which puts her at second in the record book for all of these offensive categories.
"I want to thank Indiana State University and its athletic department; every single teammate, coach, and mentor I have had, both past and present; and my parents and family. It is because of these people that I stand where I am today and can live out this dream of mine. Soccer has taken me on an incredible journey thus far, and I cannot wait to see what it has in store for me next!" said Orf.
