Sycamore Golf Begins Spring Campaign At Kiawah Island

The Indiana State women's golf team, under the direction of head coach Greg Towne, hits the links for the first time this spring on February 26-28 at the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Spring Classic. The event is hosted by the College of Charleston and features a large field of 43 teams from all across the country. Two courses will be used during the tournament including: Osprey Point – Kiawah Island Golf Resort – Par 72 – 5,964 yards
& Oak Point – Kiawah Island Golf Resort – Par 72 – 5,941 yards.

The Sycamores will be looking to sustain momentum from a solid fall season which saw them win their first tournament of the year -- the YSU Spring Invitational -- and finished third in late October down at Evansville's Charles Braun Invitational. Leading the way for the Sycamores will senior Marissa Uradomo, who has been named All-Missouri Valley Conference in each of the last two years. It will be a busy spring for the Sycamores as this is the first of six tournaments on the schedule. The annual ISU Spring Invitational will be held from April 9-10 at The Country Club of Terre Haute while the Missouri Valley Conference Championships will be held from April 16-18 in Cape Giradeau, Mo. The Sycamores finished second in last year's conference meet with a lineup that featured one junior and four freshman -- all of which return this spring.

The lineup at the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Spring Classic will consist of Marissa UradomoThilda StauboSophie BenettiSierra Hargens and Alex Jennings. Playing as an individual will be Samantha Hightower.

" This is by far the largest tournament in the country, featuring 43 talented teams," head coach Greg Towne said. "There are lots of good southern schools, who have been playing outside all winter. We are looking to shake off the dust from our last rounds outside since October. We plan on using some different lineups this spring, so there will be lots of opportunities for players to earn a spot."

Kiawah Island is a resort area south of Charleston, S.C. The island's Ocean Course hosted the 1991 Ryder Cup.

"Kiawah is a great test with lots of water and some forced carries," Towne commented. "The weather looks great and the team is excited to take their first crack at it this spring."

The large field consists of: Bethune-Cookman, Boston University, Bucknell, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, The Citadel, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Delaware, East Tennessee State, Elon, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgia Southern, High Point, Hampton, Hofstra, Indiana State, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Lipscomb, Longwood, Loyola Chicago, Marshall, Murray State, North Florida, UNC Asheville, UNCG, Omaha, Oral Roberts, Presbyterian, Richmond, Samford, SCAD, South Alabama, Southern Miss, St. John's, Stetson, Tennessee Tech, Towson, USC Upstate, William & Mary and Wofford.
