ST. LOUIS – Sophomore distance runner
Brooke Moore and senior pole vaulter
Kaitlyn Moricz have been named the Missouri Valley Conference Female Track and Field Athletes of the Week, the Valley announced Tuesday.
Brooke Moore, So., Distance, Elkhart, Ind. (Elkhart Memorial HS)
Sophomore phenom
Brooke Moore destroyed yet another Indiana State school record this past weekend at the Samford Invite. Moore, who just last week broke
Angie Lansing's 1998 mile record of 4:50.12 by seven seconds at 4:43.04, this week obliterated Nicole Lucas' 2015 time in the 3K of 9:47.59 by 12 seconds for a new school-record time of 9:35.60. Moore's 3K time currently leads the Valley by one second over Wichita State's Rebekah Topham (9:36.13), and she still leads in the mile and just narrowly had her lead in the 800 taken away this week (converted 2:09.18 now ranks second to UNI's Lindsey Kite's 2:09.04)
Kaitlyn Moricz, Sr., Pole Vault, Highland, Ind. (Lake Central HS/Vincennes/Marian)
Senior transfer
Kaitlyn Moricz continued her superb first season with the Sycamores this past week at the Samford Invite, winning yet another pole vault title with another impressive career-best vault. Moricz cleared 3.90m (12-09.50), which ranks sixth all-time in school history and pushes her up to second in the Valley this year. In her last four meets, Moricz has set a new PR in the pole vault with clearances of 3.70m (12-01.50), 3.81m (12-06.00), 3.85m (12-07.50) and now 3.90m (12-09.50).
