TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – One season in Sycamore Blue was all it took for coaches around the Missouri Valley Conference to see what type of player
Laura Gross was as the outside hitter was named to the Second Team All-MVC team Thursday ahead of ISU's opening match of Thursday's MVC Championship.
The Potomac, Illinois product put together one of the most well-rounded first seasons on campus as any player in recent history. Gross led the team in kills with 373 during the regular season with 3.36 kills per set and was second on the squad in digs with 416 for a 3.75 digs per set average. Gross also finished the regular season with 34 blocks and 20 service aces.
Gross was one of the most consistent players on the court for first-year head coach
Lindsay Allman as she picked up a team-leading 20 double-doubles in 29 matches played. A Parkland College transfer a year ago, Gross put together 11 matches with 15 or more kills including a season best 23 kill and 22 dig performance against IUPUI.
The Sycamores open the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Championship as the No. 5 seed tonight (Nov. 23) at Redbird Arena in Normal, Illinois when they face No. 4 Drake in at 6 p.m. ET. The match can be seen live on The Valley On ESPN3.
