Katie Wells Earns MVC Scholar-Athlete Honors

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Katie Wells has been named to the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team following her outstanding academic and athletic performance this season.

The junior forward from Indianapolis, Ind. has been a consistent offensive threat for the Sycamores since her debut season in 2015.

Wells earned MVC Scholar Athlete as well as First Team All-MVC selections following the 2016 season. She also was named Second Team All-MVC following her junior campaign this year.

During the 2017 season Wells led the Sycamores in points with 14 as well as goals with six. She also notched two assists on the year while playing a total of 1,463 minutes.

Wells multiple goals in one game twice during this season. First, in the Sycamores 3-1 over the Fort Wayne Mastodons on Sept. 15 and second at Chicago State on Sept. 24 where ISU defeated the Cougars 6-2.

Not only is she a standout on the field, but in the classroom as well. Wells has been named to the Dean's list in every semester of her college career as well as holding 3.98 grade point average while majoring in athletic training.

"Wells is very deserving of this honor as she truly exemplifies the definition of a student-athlete. Her dedication in the classroom and on the soccer field is something that she prides herself on and something I am very proud of her for as well" said head coach Julie Hanley.
