EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Indiana State women's golf team finished third in a rain-shortened edition of the Charles Braun Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Evansville. The tournament was held at Oak Meadow Country Club, which is a par-72, 6,032-yard layout which consisted of just one round played on Tuesday after Monday's scheduled first round was cancelled due to heavy rain.
The Sycamores carded a round of 312 to finish in third place -- just one stroke back of co-champions Butler and Southern Illinois who turned in team scores of 311. Indiana State edged IUPUI who finished in fourth place with a round of 316 and Northern Kentucky who was fifth at 319. Fort Wayne was sixth at 328 while Illinois-Chicago was seventh at 330. MVC newcomer Valparaiso carded a round of 326 to finish eighth while host Evansville and Lipscomb each posted a team score of 338 to finish in a tie for ninth place. Green Bay was 11th with a round of 341 while Eastern Illinois came in 12th place with a score of 343. Tennessee State rounded out the field with round of 351.
Thilda Staubo posted a score of 76 which tied her second place with Southern Illinois' Alice Ho and Northern Kentucky's Lillian Young. Staubo also tied for second earlier this fall at the season opener hosted by Youngstown State.
Indiana State had three golfers in the Top 10 as Staubo was joined by
Sophie Benetti and
Sierra Hargens who each recorded rounds of 78 and were tied for eighth place.
Dawn Turner made her debut in the Sycamore lineup this season with a round of 80 which tied her for 18th place while
Robyn Blanchard recorded a score of 84 and tied for 43rd place. Turner's round of 80 was a career-best for the senior as was her 18th place finish.
Abigail Irwin was one of three Sycamores to play in the event as an individual and her score of 82 put her in a tie for 28th place.
Kayla Ryan tallied a round of 85 and finished in a tie for 47th while
Alex Jennings had a 94 and finished in a tie for 79th.
The Sycamores were vying for their first Charles Braun Intercollegiate team championship since 2014.
This event wraps up the fall season for the Sycamores. Indiana State's spring schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
