ST. LOUIS -- Akis Medrano has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week today (Oct. 17) by the league office. This is Medrano's first MVC Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor.
Five of the seven runners who competed at the Pre-Nationals Meet in Louisville, Ky., recorded new personal records, and they were led by junior
Akis Medrano who crossed the line at 24:29.8 in 101st place, which is ninth all-time at Indiana State.
The Sycamore men placed 33rd overall out of 41 teams with a team score of 784, and were entered in the seeded Red 8K race, and got to race against national powerhouses such as No. 2 BYU, No. 5 Arkansas, No. 7 Colorado and No. 8 Oregon.
Medrano's time of 24:29.80 is the second-fastest men's 8K time in the MVC so far this season and was the fastest of the week among all MVC runners at that distance.Â
Indiana State now turns its attention to the Missouri Valley Conference Championships set for Saturday, October 28 in Springfield, Mo.Â
