Indiana State Falls to UMKC 1-0 Finishing Off Non-Conference Season

Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's soccer fell to the UMKC Kangaroos 1-0 today (Oct. 1) inside Memorial Stadium.

The Sycamores were slow to start as UMKC stepped on the field ready to dominate and this mentality gave them an early advantage over ISU.

In the second minute of play the Kangaroos got themselves on the board. UMKC sprung numbers forward and eventually made it downfield where they generated a corner kick. Reighan Childers stepped up to take the kick and sent a ball into the middle of the box finding the head of Lexie Howard for a goal.

This goal gave UMKC a very early 1-0 lead over the Sycamores.

During the remainder of the first half the Roo's controlled the momentum and speed of play as the Sycamores continued to try and find a rhythm.

This remained the same entering halftime as Indiana State continued to trail 1-0.

In the second half ISU came out with a different energy. The Sycamores started to battle and work the ball generating attack.

Danielle Varner was a driving force on the offensive third of the field intercepting numerous UMKC passes and recording a total of three shots for the Sycamores.

Indiana State started to garner some control of the center midfield and earned themselves two corner kicks throughout play. Sydney Hamker, Alexis Harte and Katie Sidloski also added multiple shots.

The game was evenly matched throughout the entire second half, with both teams battling it out for a goal and UMKC fighting to keep their lead.

The Roo's had numerous chances during the match, but were unable to capitalize on any after their early goal. The Sycamores suffered the same struggles.

Unfortunately Indiana State wasn't able to find the back of the net and ultimately fell to the Roo's 1-0.

Indiana State and UMKC finished with 12 shots total and goalkeeper Hannah Sullivan made five saves.

The remainder of the Sycamores season will be all Missouri Valley Conference matches. Indiana State begins this conference stint facing off with the Drake Bulldogs on Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
