The Indiana State women's golf team will continue their fall season when they travel to Indianapolis for the Butler Fall Invitational on Monday & Tuesday, October 2 and 3 at the Highland Country Club. Both men's and women's teams will be competing over the next two days and the course will be set up for the women with a par-70, 6,035 yard layout.
The 11-team women's field will consist of host Butler, Bellarmine, Evansville, Chicago State, Fort Wayne, Youngstown St., IUPUI, Marian, Indiana State, Delaware State and Indianapolis. Taking on the competition will be a lineup of Thilda Staubo,Â
Sophie Benetti,
Robyn Blanchard,
Sierra Hargens and
Abigail Irwin.Â
"Abigail won a playoff in qualifying for the final spot," head coach
Greg Towne stated. "It was good to see the competitiveness deeper on the team than in the past.
Dawn Turner is coming back from her illness and we hope to get her to full strength this week."
This will be the third tournament of the fall for the Sycamore golf team as they opened the year with a fourth place finish at Youngstown State and came back with a 12th place showing at Ball State two weeks ago.Â
Sierra Hargens finished the tournament as the Sycamores' top scorer with rounds of 73, 77 and 75 for a total of 913 and a tie for 29th place.Â
Thilda Staubo steadily improved throughout the tournament with rounds of 78, 76 and 75 a total of 229 and a tie for 45th place.Â
Robyn Blanchard's scores of 76, 77 and 79 was good enough for a tournament score of 232 and a tie for 53rd place. Rounding out the Sycamores' lineup wasÂ
Sophie Benetti who posted rounds of 79, 78 and 78 for a total of 235 and a tie for 66th place.
Irwin will be making her debut this season in the Sycamore lineup. At Ball State, all of the Sycamores' 15 individual rounds were played in the 70's.
"The Indy area has had plenty of rain and the rough is extremely high so precision will be at a premium," according to coach Towne. "Competing against Butler and Indianapolis at their place will be a nice challenge."
The Butler Fall Invitational will consist of 36 holes with the one round each on Monday and Tuesday. There will be a shotgun start at 9 am (ET) on Monday followed by an 8:30 am start on Tuesday.Â
