Terre Haute, Ind.—The Sycamore soccer family has welcomed two transfers to the 2016-2017 roster this spring.
Caitlyn Eddy comes to Indiana State from the University of Arkansas Little Rock where she competed for her first two seasons of her collegiate career. The Sycamores also welcome Tessa Leong who joins the program coming all the way from New Zealand.
Head coach
Julie Hanley is excited to add these two transfers to the roster as she continues to build the Sycamore soccer program. Hanley led ISU to their first Missouri Valley Conference Tournament berth since 2013 with Indiana State placing fourth in the MVC.
"We are very fortunate to add 2 transfers that I believe will have an immediate impact on our program and help with the team's future success," said Hanley.
Eddy, a sophomore product from St. Charles, Mo. played her club soccer with Lou Fusz Meyer and St. Louis Scott Gallagher Elite. Eddy had two impressive seasons during her time with the Trojans. In her rookie season Eddy led the way with a team high six assists and added three goals as well. This earned her a spot on the All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team. Following this she racked up 1,000 minutes of play in her sophomore season positioning herself sixth on the team with two goals and two assists.
"Caitlyn is an attacking midfielder who covers a lot of ground with her work rate and high level of fitness. Her 2 years of college experience will be invaluable as we look for her to impact and complement our current midfield. She is a true competitor who holds herself to a very high level and betters those around her."
Leong joins the program after playing club soccer for Three Kings United who won the Northern League Championship in 2016. Leong was also a member of the Auckland Football Federation. This is the highest level league in which you can compete in New Zealand. Leong came away with the runner up most valuable player award during her time with this high level league.
"Tessa has played at a high level internationally and finds a way to score goals and create opportunities for her teammates. She is extremely technical and comfortable on the ball. We look for Tessa to play a significant role in the midfield this coming season. Both Tessa and Caitlyn are wonderful additions not only to our team but the community and campus. We are excited to welcome them to the Sycamore Family," said Hanley.
The student-athletes are currently working hard in their spring training regimen and will be returning to the field in February to open their spring season of competition.
