AUBURN, Ala.—The Indiana State Softball team fell in both of its games on the opening day of the Tiger Invitational, Friday, falling to St. John's 8-4 and Boston College 4-0, in Auburn, Ala.

St. John's Game

The Sycamores fell behind early as the Red Storm scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 and never looked back as they went on to defeat Indiana State 8-4.

In the top of the second inning the St. John's offense extended their lead as they plated four more runs to jump out to a 6-0 advantage over the Sycamores before making it 7-0 in the top of the third.

The Sycamore offense responded in the bottom of the third as freshman Monique Castillo reached on an error and came around to score to cut the deficit to 7-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Sycamores again cut into the Red Storm lead as senior Mallory Schneid received a one out walk before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Castillo to make it 7-2.

After the Red Storm plated a run in the top of the 6th, the Sycamores offense again struck as freshman Bailey Martin hit an RBI single to score senior Alexa Cavin and freshman Shaye Barton received a bases loaded walk to score Castillo to cut the St. John's lead to 8-4.

The Sycamores threatened in the bottom of the 7th but could get no closer as they fell by a final score of 8-4. Barton finished the game 2-3 with two RBI's to lead the Sycamores.

Boston College Game

In their second game of the day, the Indiana State Softball team could never get an edge offensively as they fell to Boston College by a final score of 4-0.

Indiana State threatened in the top of the first inning when junior Kassie Brown reached on a bunt single before Barton singled to put runners on the corners and stole second base, putting two Sycamore runners in scoring position with just one out. They team couldn't push any runs across, however, as a strikeout and flyout ended the frame.

Boston College came out firing as a leadoff double came around to score in the bottom of the first and never looked back.

The Eagles kept the offense going as they plated two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to extend their lead to 4-0.

In the top of the sixth, the Sycamores threatened once again as senior Alexa Cavin singled and stole second before Schneid walked, however, a strikeout end the Indiana State threat.

Brown led the Sycamores offensively, going 3-3 at the plate while Cavin had a pinch hit single and a stolen base.

The Sycamores will next play Saturday when they take on Western Illinois at 6:30 p.m. during the second day of the Tiger Invitational.
