NEW ORLEANS - The Indiana State Men's and Women's Track and Field teams, along with five student-athletes, have been honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as part of their All-Academic teams.
Â
The men's team was one of 139 men's programs to earn the honor, while the women's squad was one of 227 women's programs. In total, 366 Division I programs earned the honor.
Â
In order to be eligible as a team, teams must have finished the season with a 3.0 cumulative team GPA. The Sycamore men finished the 2018-2019 season with a 3.11 cumulative GPA, while the women finished with a 3.31.
Â
Five Sycamore student-athletes also earned All-Academic honors as well. A total of 1,483 individual student-athletes were honored - 902 women and 583 men. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and completed at least one of the following two accomplishments during the 2018-19 season: either finish the indoor season ranked in the top-96 in an individual event (or top-48 in a relay event); or, compete at any round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships (including the East and West preliminary rounds).
Â
Two ISU men and three women were honored:
Matthew Lewis-Banks (3.39, Business) and
Riley Smith (3.48, Electronics Engineering) for the men, and
Ayanna Morgan (3.26, Business Management),
Erin Reese (3.41, Psychology) and
Cassaundra Roper (3.72, Communications) for the women.
Â
Indiana State has an impressive history with the All-Academic Team. Since its inception in 2007, only a handful have been chosen as indoor or outdoor Scholar-Athletes of the Year – one of those being world-class pole vaulter and former Sycamore Kylie Hutson, who won the female field edition of the award indoors in both 2009 and 2010.
